1950. Lee. Princeton University Varsity Beer Jacket.

Rare and elusive, these jackets are collected by Princeton alumni and workwear obsessives alike the world over.

Conceived in 1912 as a clever way to protect their clothes from drinking mishaps, 'Beer Suits' became an enduring garment of varsity life at the prestigious Princeton University.

Each year a unique (and often topical) logo was stencilled at the back right shoulder. This still persists today. The creamy white denim and canvas suits were perfect for standing out around town as well as providing their practical function as an all in one beer bib.

Sanforized and Union Made, this exceptionally rare and beautifully patinad canvas example is by heritage workwear legends, Lee. Taken from the class of 1950 when, due to military efforts in WW2, the suits were pared back to a simple but stylish jacket.

With the hand stencilled Princeton tiger mascot looking slightly worse for wear, bottle in hand, this logo fits the drinking brief perfectly.

Fitted with stamped brass buttons at the placket and poppers at the cuffs, the quality of the details on this 75 year old item are exquisite.

We're extremely grateful to be able to offer this unique garment steeped in American history.

Condition - This has marks. Though the denim itself is in pretty good shape. The collar has a well done repair.  It may well be that this has come directly from the last beer in which it was consumed. This only adds to the amazing history of this garment. We've tried to picture all the marks we can see.
